Safety First
I want to briefly bring up how safety is one of the major reasons a child performs poorly in school. I remember back when I was in school from the late ’70s to the mid-90s, school was a lot different. But even then safety was just beginning to be an issue, at least where I grew up anyway. Now, keep in mind I grew up in a fairly small town in upstate South Carolina. From Kindergarten – 5th grade my parents had me enrolled in a Private Christian School. I never witnessed a lot of violence, just a fistfight or two, and it was over about as fast as it began. And they were back thick as thieves as though nothing ever happened. I must admit, I was in 1 or 2 of those miner disputes myself. But I never felt my safety was threatened.
I remember it was the summer after fifth grade and my dad told me I would have to begin going to public school the coming school year. I was not very upset, I have always enjoyed change, but sometimes the enjoyment is very short-lived. My 5th grade class in Private School consisted of a Grand Total of about 8 students. My 6th class in Public School consisted of about 30 students, to say I was in a state of culture shock would be an understatement.
There wasn’t a day that went by that there wasn’t some sort of violent exchange among students. I grew accustomed to this over the next few years, at least until the 8th grade rolled around. Thinking back I remember it being the last block of the day before going home. I had asked the teacher for permission to go to the restroom. We had two floors, upstairs and downstairs. It was in an English Class downstairs and I would have normally gone to use the upstairs restroom to waste a little bit of time, but I needed the restroom break bad. I was on my way back to class and heard what sounded to me like a firecracker upstairs. I didn’t think much about it at the time, but shortly after returning to my classroom the Principal came over the intercom informing the teachers to shut their doors, and that there had been a shooting on the premises.
In today’s world, safety is paramount. Our online-only school provides a secure learning environment where students can thrive without the worries of physical threats or health concerns. Say goodbye to the anxiety of commuting and hello to peace of mind, knowing your educational journey is both safe and uninterrupted.
